You're reading: AM: Ukraine sows 2.8 mln ha with spring crops, 1.6 mln ha with sunflower crops

Ukraine has sown 2.8 million hectares (ha) with spring grain and leguminous crops, which is 39% of the plan, the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has said on Friday.

In particular, 158,000 ha of the area was sown with wheat, which is 88% of the plan, spring barley was sown on 1.5 million ha (92%), oats on 193,000 ha (93%), peas on 373,000 ha (113%), and maize on 549,000 ha (12%).

Sugar beet crops cover 278,000 ha (95%), while 1.6 million ha (29%) was sown under sunflower crops and 55,000 ha (3%) under soybean crops.

As was reported earlier, the ministry said that 7.2 million ha would be under spring grain crops in 2017. Of the area, 2.4 million ha will sown with early grain crops.
