You're reading: Ukraine sows 3.1 million ha with spring crops, 1.8 million ha with sunflower crops

Ukraine has sown 3.1 million hectares (ha) with spring grain and leguminous crops, which is 43 percent of the target as of April 25,  the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has said.

In particular, 160,000 ha of the area was sown with wheat, which is 89 percent of the target, spring barley was sown on 1.5 million ha (93 percent), oats on 195,000 ha (94 percent), peas on 375,000 ha (114 percent), and maize on 836,000 ha (19 percent).

Sugar beet crops cover 284,000 ha (97 percent), while 1.8 million ha (33 percent) was sown under sunflower crops and 100,000 ha (5 percent) under soybean crops.

As was reported earlier, the ministry said that 7.2 million ha would be under spring grain crops in 2017. Of the area, 2.4 million ha will be sown with early grain crops.
