You're reading: Ukraine starts sowing spring crops

Ukraine has started sowing early spring grain and leguminous crops in five regions of Ukraine and as of March 4 had sown them on an area of 22,500 hectares of the projected 7.2 million hectares.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, farmers sowed 11,600 hectares with spring barley, 300 hectares with wheat, 200 hectares with oats, and 10,400 hectares with peas.

In addition, winter crops for grain have been fertilized on an area of 3.8 million hectares (50 percent of the forecast).

Winter wheat has been fertilized on an area of 3.11 million hectares (49 percent), winter rye on 25,600 hectares (22 percent), and winter barley on 606,500 hectares (60 percent).

In addition, winter rapeseeds were fed up on an area of 967,900 hectares (75 percent).
