You're reading: Ukraine supports idea jointly with Belarus to develop navigation on Dnipro River

Ukraine fully supports the implementation of the project for the development of port infrastructure in the settlement of Nizhnie Zhary (Belarus) for the purpose of loading with heavy vessels.

According to the press service of the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine, the issue was discussed during talks between the Ukrainian ministry and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus on the development of river transportation on May 5. The Belarusian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Aleksandr Shishko, the Ukrainian one was led by Deputy Minister for European Integration Viktor Dovhan.

The report notes this port in the long term could become a major transit hub that will connect Europe and Asia.

“Today the urgent issue of cooperation is the achievement of a strategic decision on the development of navigation on the Dnipro River on the Nizhnie Zhary-Kyiv section for the purpose of accepting heavy vessels, namely dredging work in the area,” the press service said.
