You're reading: Ukraine to reduce to zero electricity imports from Russia, Belarus

Ukrenergo will reduce to zero the capacity of interstate power grids sections with Russia and Belarus from April 10 until May 24, the company’s press service said.

The suspension of import for the time of the quarantine, which was introduced in the country in connection with the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), has been approved in line with instruction No. 766 of the National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) of April 8.

“Allocated capacity will be reduced in line with the current legislation and agreements on parallel operation with Belarus and Russia, which allow changing the import and export schedule only in advance – two days before a specific import or export operation. In fact, the actual reduction of imports from Russia and Belarus for the time of the quarantine and 30 days after its completion will be carried out from April 10,” the company said.

The information about annulment of the results of the electricity auction for distributing transmission capacity for 2020 and compensation for the limited rights to allocated capacity will be provided shortly.
