You're reading: Ukraine, UK agreed on doubling quotas for road hauliers

Quotas for Ukrainian and UK motor carriers have been doubled up to 3,600 for each country since 2017 as the result of the meeting of the Ukrainian-British mixed commission on international road transportation held in Kyiv on August 2-3.

“Starting from 2018, the parties will begin their work on the draft protocol on amending the existing intergovernmental agreement. This document says that shipments by vehicles of the Euro-5 category and above will be carried out without permits from 2019,” the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry said in a statement on the results of the talks.

The ministry has recalled that the previous meeting of the commission was held in 2003, and the quota of permits for Ukrainian carriers has not been revised since 2011 and amounts to 1,800 universal permits a year.

The Infrastructure Ministry specifies that this year’s quota of permits dubbed “universal” will be 1,950, “Universal Euro-3” 1,200 and “Universal Euro-4” 450, whereas in 2018 “Universal” will tentatively make 300, “Universal Euro-3” 2,400 and “Universal Euro-4” 900.

Starting from 2019, the parties will not exchange “Universal” permits, this number of permits will be transferred to the category “Universal Euro-3”, due to the current requirements of the UK national legislation, the ministry explained.

The next round of talks is scheduled for the third quarter of 2018.
