Ukraine and the World Bank have signed a grant agreement to implement Social Safety Nets Modernization Project in 30 merged territorial communities in Odesa and Ternopil region for the amount of $2.85 million, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported.

The Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) provided the funds to implement the project, World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine Satu Kahkonen said at a press release on Thursday.

The project’s objective is improving social assistance provision to the most vulnerable and it will be implemented by the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF) in 2018-2022.

“It consists of two components, the first of which is training aimed at developing human resources. The second component is that based on the assessment of the first component, micro projects will be funded to increase the accessibility of social services, in particular to older persons,” Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi said.

For the implementation of micro projects, 10 merged territorial communities will be selected. The maximum amount of funding will be $140,000.
