You're reading: Ukraine’s Armed Forces will switch to new structure in March

In March, the Armed Forces of Ukraine should undergo transition to a new structure, said Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alina Frolova.

“At the moment everything is ready for the actual change in the structure, while the change of management structure has already taken place. We are only waiting for the last law, which, as soon as the parliament unblocks is expected to be voted for. Since the date of these changes was planned for 2021. We shifted them to an earlier stage and hope that around March we will be able to actually change the structure of the Armed Forces,” she said at the Reforms Forum: On the Road to Vilnius in Kyiv on Feb. 25.

According to the deputy minister, this is a “huge change” because Ukraine is moving from a post-Soviet structure of the Armed Forces to a modern structure of forces that meets NATO standards. This gives the Armed Forces the opportunity to be compatible with the standards of the North Atlantic Alliance, which implements other principles of command, use of force and forces generation.
