The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine actively uses small drones to monitor the line of the state border of controlled border areas and counteract the illegal movement of persons, as well as to prevent other unlawful activities.

“Drones are mainly used to conduct thermal imaging and video surveillance. The results of such observations are recorded by the ground control station and transferred to the service control center, which allows border guards to respond promptly to manifestations of illegal activities on the border,” the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine said.

The use of such aviation units allows border guards to monitor remote areas and perform tasks that require inspection in hard-to-reach places, especially in mountainous and forested areas.

“The successfully organized use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the areas of responsibility of border units has already made it possible to quickly identify and detain several violators. Most often they were found by the border guards of the Azov-Black Sea and the southern regional departments of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine,” the report says.
