Ukraine’s GDP growth in the third quarter of 2017 year-over-year reached 2.1 percent compared with 2.3 percent in the second quarter and 2.5 percent in the first quarter of 2017, the State Statistics Service has reported in a preliminary report.

According to the report, the Ukrainian economy added 0.2 percent compared with the previous quarter (taking into account the seasonal factor), while in the second quarter the figure was 0.6 percent.

As reported, in middle of August, the State Statistics Service promptly estimated growth of GDP in the second quarter of 2017 compared with the second quarter of 2016 at 2.4 percent, and in middle of September lowered this estimate to 2.3 percent.

One quarter earlier, the situation was reversed: the statistics authority previously reported an increase of 2.4 percent, and then improved the estimate to 2.5 percent.

The government, when reviewing the draft national budget 2017 early summer this year, worsened the forecast for real GDP growth from 3 percent to 1.8 percent due to the termination of relations with enterprises in the uncontrolled areas of Donbas.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in July this year also worsened the forecast of GDP growth in the country in 2017 to 1.6 percent from 1.9 percent, but at the end of October the central bank improved it to 2.2 percent.

As reported, last year the Ukrainian economy grew by 2.3 percent. The government of Ukraine in 2018 expects GDP growth of 3 percent, the National Bank – by 3.2 percent.
