The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine confirms the capture by pirates of a Ukrainian sailor off the coast of Africa.

“The consular service, in cooperation with interested parties, is taking measures to free the Ukrainian sailor captured by pirates,” speaker of the consular service department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vasyl Kyrylych told the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Friday.

Earlier this day, foreign media reported that off the coast of the African country of Cameroon, pirates captured Ukrainian and Chinese sailors. According to a source in the Navy, the abductors are probably Nigerian pirates. Cameroon security forces began their search.

At the same time, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the attack was carried out on a MarMaLight cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. Three of eight crew members, who were captured, are Russian citizens.
