The editorial board of Ukraine’s NewsOne television channel has posted a statement, which described the protest against the TV linkup with Russia held by right-wing radicals near its studio on July 8 as pressure.

“We, members of the international editorial board of the NewsOne TV channel, strongly condemn the unprecedented pressure from the side of right-wing radicals and intimidation of the channel’s journalists in the line of duty,” the statement said.

The editorial board says Ukraine has long been a leader in terms of violence against media workers, hindrances to their activity, and the lack of reaction of law enforcement agencies and top-ranking officials, including the Ukrainian president, to unlawful actions of the radicals.

The protest against the TV linkup with Russia took place near the NewsOne studio in Kyiv on July 8.

The TV linkup between Russia’s Rossiya 24, which is blacklisted in Ukraine, and NewsOne was due on July 12, yet NewsOne said on July 8 it had canceled the event.
