You're reading: Ukraine’s parliament doesn’t dismiss Defense Minister Poltorak

Ukraine’s parliament has not backed a draft resolution on the dismissal of Stepan Poltorak from the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

Only 67 MPs voted for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s initiative, with the minimum required being 226 votes; 48 MPs voted against, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent said.

As it was reported, Zelenskiy on May 30 tabled motions in parliament to dismiss Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense at its meeting on June 5 did not support Zelenskiy’s motion on the defense minister’s dismissal.
