Independent Verkhovna Rada member Nadiya Savchenko, who is accused of preparing a coup, may be subjected to a forced psychiatric evaluation, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said.

“The court and only the court will determine if these accusations are right […] Of course, after a judicial action called ‘forced psychiatric evaluation,'” Lutsenko said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada regulations committee, which considered his request to strip Savchenko of parliamentary immunity and detain and arrest her on March 22.

He also read articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code that investigators accuse Savchenko of violating.

On March 22, the Verkhovna Rada gave its consent to the prosecution, detention, and arrest of Savchenko, as Lutsenko had recommended.
