Ukraine’s seaports in 2016 handled 131.99 million tonnes of cargo, which is 8.9% less than in 2015, reads a report from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.

According to the report, transshipment of exported cargo decreased by 3.3%, to 100.395 million tonnes, imported cargo by 10.8%, to 16.013 million tonnes. Transshipment of transit freight fell by 35% and amounted to 10.37 million tonnes, cabotage cargo by 23.7%, to 5.22 million tonnes.

State port operators managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure handled 38.415 million tonnes of cargo (29.1% of the total volume), other port operators (mostly privately owned) at all berths transshipped 93.583 million tonnes of cargo (70.9%). Port operators (mostly privately owned) at the berths of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority handled 53.49 million tonnes of cargo (40.5%).

Transshipment of containers in seaports increased by 24.1% and amounted to 588,542 TEU.
