President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has assured that the Ukrainian authorities continue taking all possible actions to release from the Russian Federation illegally sentenced by Russian courts for political reasons citizens of Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian authorities continue doing everything possible to liberate [illegally arrested in the occupied Crimea deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people] Akhtem Chiygoz and all political prisoners of the Kremlin,” Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page on August 10 afternoon.

He also cited part of Chiygoz’ last word before passing a verdict in which the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, in particular, stresses that there is no criminal case against him, and the country-invader of Crimea is making a trial against him, which does not have this right.

“These words of Chyigoz, which he voiced in his last speech before the verdict, fully reflect the criminal nature of the trial court that the Russian Federation organized against the Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars who defended their Motherland,” the Ukrainian president said.

As reported, Chiygoz was detained in Crimea on January 29, 2015 on suspicion of organizing and participating in mass riots on February 26, 2014. In fact, he was detained for participation in a rally in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in front of the Crimean parliament building, when protesters were opposed by pro-Russian activists, including, from the Russian Unity party.

Prosecutor Anastasia Supryaga asked for Chiygoz a punishment in the form of imprisonment for eight years with serving in a colony of general regime, the internet site Krym Realia said on August 7.

On August 9, his lawyer Nikolai Polozov said that the verdict to the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Akhtem Chiygoz, who was illegally arrested in the occupied Crimea, would be announced on September 11.
