You're reading: Ukrainian border guards beef up security at Ukraine-Belarus border

Additional border patrols have been put up on the section of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border near the Belarusian checkpoint of Alexandrovka where there was an attempt to break through the state border of Belarus in the early hours on March 20.

The Belarusian border guards informed the State Border Service of Ukraine about a SUV allegedly traveling from Ukraine that attempted to break through the Belarusian Alexandrovka checkpoint, the Ukrainian State Border Service’s press service said on March 20.

“The State Border Service immediately began verification of the information provided, during which it was determined that the vehicle with a foreign number plate had not crossed the Ukrainian border: it had neither entered nor left the country,” it said.

“Those who were probably in the car also did not cross the state border for a long period of time,” it added.

Currently, the Ukrainian and Belarusian border guards are jointly working to establish all the circumstances of this incident and the motives of the persons who were in the vehicle. The results of this operation will be reported additionally.

“At the same time, additional border patrols have already been posted on the section of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, control over the regulations at the checkpoints has been stepped up along with coordination of work with the Belarusian counterparts,” it said.
