An appeals court in Kyiv has upheld a June 16 ruling by the Holosivsky district court of Kyiv to remand in custody the volunteer Yaroslav Tarasenko, suspected of complicity in the murder of a former Russian Duma deputy, Denis Voronenkov.

The decision was made on July 25, a court spokesperson said.

The appeals court rejected Tarasenko lawyers’ petition for his arrest until September 13 to be replaced with an alternative restraining measure.

Tarasenko is suspected of premeditated murder. He was detained on June 16.

Voronenkov was killed in the center of Kyiv on March 23. His bodyguard injured the killer who died in hospital later.

The Ukrainian parliamentarian Anton Gerashchenko (People’s Front) believes that the killer was a Russian security agent, Pavel Parshov, who was planted within the Ukrainian law enforcement system. The Ukrainian Security Service is checking this information.

Voronenkov’s killer had an accomplice, Yaroslav Levenets, who has been wanted for economic crimes since 2012.
