Ukraine’s embassy in Kazakhstan has confirmed the death of a Ukrainian citizen in the crash of a plane near Almaty. He was a pilot instructor.

“We now have more precise information, even written confirmation that the man who died was, unfortunately, a Ukrainian citizen,” the embassy’s staff told the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Thursday.

The embassy said Kurchenko, S. P., born in 1970, was the man who died.

The crash occurred during Thursday morning about 43 kilometers from Almaty. Kazakh air transportation officials said the plane caught fire after landing, killing Kurchenko and his student, E. Abishev, born in 1996.
