You're reading: Ukrainian foreign minister: Normandy format leaders may talk on phone in a week

The leaders of the countries engaged in the Normandy format negotiations on Donbas, i.e. the presidents of France, Russia and Ukraine and the federal chancellor of Germany, may have a telephone conversation during the week following the next one, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

“We are currently talking about organizing a telephone conversation. From the schedule viewpoint, it’s likely to be during the week following the next one. Because it’s just hard to arrange this next week from the logistic standpoint,” Klimkin said on the Inter television channel when asked when the Normandy format talks may take place.

There is an agreement that this would be a serious conversation focused on security issues and the freeing of captives, Klimkin said.

“As soon as there are results of the telephone conversation, then we’ll certainly be planning meetings, but meetings aimed at achieving a result,” he said.
