You're reading: Ukrainian Foreign Ministry thanks EU Council for extension of Crimean sanctions

Ukraine is grateful for the European Union’s consistent policy of non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea and extension by the EU Foreign Affairs Council of the “Crimean package” of sanctions against the aggressor state for 12 months “without debate,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in its comment on the official website.

“We highly appreciate the EU’s constant attention to developments in the occupied Crimea, which is characterized by serious systemic violations of human rights… The support of the EU and partners is a key one for restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine in accordance with international law,” it said.

The Foreign Ministry notes that the sanctions policy of the international partners of Ukraine and the consistent condemnation of the Kremlin’s actions “are effective tools of international pressure on the occupier state.” “We also count on the extension of the period of the EU’s sector and economic sanctions against Russia until the full implementation of its international obligations and the cessation of aggression against Ukraine in Crimea and Donbas,” the foreign ministry said.

As reported, the European Union approved the decision to extend restrictive measures against Russia for the illegal annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol until June 23, 2018.

According to a report on the website of the Council of the European Union, such a decision was made in Luxembourg on Monday at a meeting of EU foreign ministers. These measures apply to EU citizens and companies established in the EU. Their action is limited to the territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

This category of sanctions includes prohibitions on imports of products originating in Crimea or Sevastopol into the EU, investment in Crimea or Sevastopol, tourism services in Crimea or Sevastopol, and exports of certain goods and technologies to Crimean companies or for use in Crimea in the transport, telecommunications and energy sectors and related to the prospection, exploration and production of oil, gas and mineral resources.
