Gas stocks in Ukraine’s underground storage facilities have reached a nine-year high of 20 billion cubic meters (bcm), pipeline and gas infrastructure operator Ukrtransgaz has said.

Another 500 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas should be pumped into storage in time for the start of the heating season in the middle of October.

“Thanks to the gas stocks and imports from the European Union it is possible today to say that Ukraine is ready to get through the 2019/2020 winter season smoothly,” Ukrtransgaz said.

The volume of pumping in September was 77.2 mcm per day on the average. The average daily volume in August was 77.5 mcm, in July it was 74.4 mcm, in June 71.9 mcm, and in May 62.9 mcm.

Gas stocks fell from 17.195 bcm to 8.745 bcm during the heating season from Nov. 6, 2018 to April 4.
