You're reading: Ukrainian gets 18-month sentence for smuggling military plane parts

The Belgorod Sverdlovsky District Court has found a Ukrainian citizen guilty of trying to smuggle military goods, the press service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) branch in the Belgorod region of Russia said in a statement.

“Ukrainian citizen O. Chirva born in 1964 was detained by officers of the FSB regional branch while attempting to illegally transport 20 sets of PTK-12545-70 parachute braking systems of Sukhoi military planes from Russia to Ukraine,” the statement said.

The smugglers planned to re-export the goods to third countries under Ukraine’s contracts with foreign partners, it said.

The defendant was sentenced to 18 months in a general penitentiary on counts of smuggling military hardware.
