You're reading: Ukrainian Interior Ministry reports detention of hacker

The cyber division of the Ukrainian National Police has reported the detention of a hacker wanted by 30 countries.

“The police discovered that he had arrived in the capital with a Ukrainian passport in another name. A laptop, money, and a flash memory drive were seized from the apartment he rented,” the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Facebook on Feb.26 morning.

The detainee’s identity has not been revealed.

The ministry said that the hacking network Avalanche was active for seven years, and it took the efforts of law enforcement agencies of 30 countries to shut it down.

The international operation against the hacking network took place on November 30, 2016. The network organizer, a 33-year-old local, was detained in Poltava on the same day.
