Ukrainian soldiers detained a resident of Donetsk region for attempting to join Russia-led forces, the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) press center has said.

“On February 2, soldiers from a mechanized brigade serving in the JFO in the Svitlodarsk area noticed a person moving in their direction. The person did not respond heed calls to stop and was detained,” the JFO press center said on Feb. 3 morning.

The detainee is a 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen P, who had previously been convicted twice and served 15 years in jail.

“The detained man said a former classmate in December 2018 contacted him on the Odnoklassniki social service and persuaded him to serve in a Russia-led military unit. He was offered 20,000 rubles as an incentive,” JFO press service said.

Ukraine’s military has transferred citizen P. to law-enforcement agencies for questioning.
