Passex-type training was held in the Black Sea with the participation of the Ukrainian patrol boat Pryluky and the French warship Commandant Birot.

“On December 1, joint exercises of the PASSEX type took place in the Black Sea with the participation of the Pryluky patrol boat of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the French naval ship Commandant Birot,” the press center of the Navy Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on its Facebook page Dec. 2.

The department notes that during joint maneuvers on the high seas, the ships of the countries worked out a number of tasks to increase compatibility in accordance with the standards of the North Atlantic Alliance. At the same time, the main attention was paid to improving the skills and actions of ship crews during the performance of tasks as part of a group of ships.

As reported, On November 28, a corvette of the French Navy Commandant Birot called at the port of Odesa on a four-day visit.

The program of the Commandant Birot visit to Odesa provides for meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian Navy and a number of other events. The departure of the ship is scheduled for December 1.

The French ship has been in the Black Sea since November 22, since then it has already visited the port of Batumi as part of military cooperation between Georgia and NATO.

The Commandant Birot corvette was put on combat duty by the French Navy in 1984. It is constantly based at the French naval base in Toulon. Its main tasks are supporting strategic submarine forces, reconnaissance and monitoring of marine movements.

The corvette is named after Roger Birot, commander of the Free France Corvette Mimosa, which was sunk by a German submarine on the night of June 8–9, 1942.
