The Ukrainian National Police have placed under protection seven persons from the “list of 47”, which the Ukrainian Security Service has obtained as a result of a special operation staging journalist Arkady Babchenko’s ‘murder’, the Ukrayinska Pravda online publication reported referencing to National Police spokesman Yaroslav Trakalo.

“In implementing seven resolutions drawn up by the SBU investigators officially forwarded with the National Police, the National Police is providing physical protection to seven persons, against whom terrorist attacks could be planned,” Trakalo said.

The list of persons, who have been placed under protection, may be extended, the National Police spokesman said.

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has opened a criminal case into the leaks of information on this list to the media, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said.

“I will not comment on the list itself, or on security measures applied following the corresponding petitions filed by persons on this list, and I find doing so in public unacceptable,” the general prosecutor said.

Owing to the special operation staging Babchenko’s ‘murder’, the investigators managed to obtain more information about the contractor of these crimes, Lutsenko said.

“We are preparing to identify new suspects as part of this case in the near future,” the general prosecutor said.

As reported, in early June the Strana.ua online publication has made public the list of 47 Ukrainian citizens and foreigners, who are theoretical victims of terrorist attacks in Ukraine.

On June 5, the SBU launched a criminal inquiry on the count of the disclosure of the findings of the pretrial investigation into the media reports revealing the list of potential victims. On June 6, the SBU confirmed to BBC that “the list of 47” earlier published in the media includes the same persons as the list seized during the special operation staging Babchenko’s ‘murder’.
