Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has met with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross to discuss investment in Ukraine, according to the presidential press service.

“Opportunities for boosting investment by American companies in Ukraine, as well as the development of bilateral trade, particularly in the context of expanding exports of Ukrainian commodities to the United States, were the main focus of attention,” the press service said.

Poroshenko briefed Ross on reforms that are under way in Ukraine and on measures to make the business climate in the country better and create proper conditions for foreign companies.

“Resolute steps to improve the judicial system, customs and tax agencies’ work were also mentioned,” it said.

Ross, in turn, showed interest in the expansion of U.S. business in the Ukrainian market and noted Ukraine’s progress in recent years.

Poroshenko also informed him about privatization plans in Ukraine and invited U.S. investors.

The Ukrainian president was on a working visit to Washington on June 19-20.
