Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovic have agreed to reopen the Uzhgorod airport.

“We’ve discussed topical issues with Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovic. Today, we gave the green light for the resumption of the work of Uzhgorod airport. It remains to sign intergovernmental agreements,” Shmyhal wrote on his Twitter on August 18.

At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian government thanked Matovic and Slovakia “for unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

As reported, on June 10, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the signing of an agreement with Slovakia on the operation of the international airport Uzhgorod. The draft act, in particular, proposes to instruct Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy to sign an agreement with Slovakia on the use of its airspace in connection with air traffic services by the Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE) at the Uzhgorod international airport.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the parties plan to sign an agreement as part of Zelensky’s official visit to Slovakia.
