Oleksandr Gorbenko, a 29-year-old soldier with the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, succumbed to his wounds in a Kharkiv hospital on the morning of July 19.

The death was reported by Tetiana Huba, the head adviser of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.

Gorbenko had suffered third-degree burns to 80% of his body while fighting in Donbas on July 15. He was evacuated from the warzone by helicopter and brought to a burn treatment center of an emergency care hospital in Kharkiv.

Gorbenko was from Kryvi Rih. He joined the armed forces in 2014 during Russia’s invasion of Donbas.

On July 15, Russian-sponsored militants have violated the current ceasefire eight times near the village of New York.

Five military service members were injured in the shelling.

The latest Donbas ceasefire went into force on July 27, 2020.  While militant attacks went down in the first few months, they have since ramped back up. Over forty service members have been killed since the beginning of the ceasefire.
