A soldier was killed on January 30 afternoon in a separatist attack on Ukrainian army positions near the village of Vodiane, which is about 27 km from the Ukrainian-controlled port city of Mariupol; the incident violated a ceasefire in Donbas, which lasted for more than a day, the press service of the Ukrainian Army has said.

“Russia-backed separatists opened fire on our positions near Vodiane on the coast of the Sea of Azov in Donetsk region, using large-caliber machine-guns and small arms. Unfortunately, a Ukrainian soldier has been killed in the separatist attack,” the Ukrainian Military HQ said in its update on Facebook as of 6:00 p.m. Kyiv time on January 30.
