MOSCOW – The case files of Andriy Zakhtei, accused of plotting acts of sabotage in Crimea, contain confessions despite the Ukrainian man denying guilt, his defense lawyer said.

“No, he pleads not guilty,” the Ukrainian man’s lawyer Ilnur Sharapov told Interfax-Ukraine on Dec. 5.

Meanwhile, his colleague Ilya Novikov, who has agreed to represent Zakhtei’s interests in the European Court of Human Rights, said there were still confessions in the case files.

“His current position is not to confirm these statements, where we are going to end up eventually is unclear,” Novikov told journalists on Dec. 5.

“There is not a single person who would have gone through this and not made an admission,” he said.

Earlier the Lefortovo court in Moscow extended Zakhtei’s arrest until March 7, 2017.
