You're reading: Ukrainians released from occupied Donbas to undergo rehabilitation in Odesa region

MAYAKY (ODESA REGION) – Ukrainians released from non-government controlled area in Donetsk and Luhansk regions will undergo rehabilitation in Odesa region, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“The best doctors and the best psychologists will come to Odesa region. They will help 74 Ukrainians who were released from the prisons of occupied Donbas. Those released will undergo full rehabilitation at a military hospital [military clinical hospital No. 411],” he said at a meeting with residents of the village of Mayaky, Biliaivka district, Odesa region, on Dec.28.

As reported, 74 illegally held Ukrainians were released during the exchange of captives between Ukraine and ORDLO on Dec. 27. The other side received 233 people. This has been the largest exchange of held persons between the parties since 2015.

Ukraine’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Iryna Lutsenko, said that Ukraine had begun negotiations on the release of other Ukrainians held captive in occupied Donbas. According to her, the militants have already confirmed the whereabouts of more than 20 detained Ukrainians.
