Public joint-stock company Ukrzaliznytsia jointly with Hungarian railways MÁV-START plans to launch the Mukachevo-Budapest direct train, acting Board Chairman of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov has said.

“One of the most beautiful capitals in Europe can be reached in a comfortable non-stop train journey. Ukrzaliznytsia together with MÁV-START nemzetközi utazások plans to launch the direct train Mukachevo – Budapest. We have only completed negotiations with our Hungarian colleagues. They are willing to provide rolling stock, which will run on the European gauge, to connect the two cities,” Kravtsov wrote on his page in the Facebook social network on Friday.

According to him, the new route will save time on the replacement of wagons from the broad gauge to the narrow one, which is a significant advantage of the route.

“The distance between Mukachevo and Budapest is 400 km. The price of tickets is democratic: second class – no more than Hr 700, first class – about Hr 1,000,” Kravtsov said.

He also mentioned ambitious plans for the reconstruction of the railway station in Mukachevo.

“We plan to develop a powerful hub for traveling around the EU,” he said.

“I am confident that a new convenient route will open even more interesting European cities for Ukrainians,” he added.
