KHARKIV –  The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) seeks to continue the program of renovation of houses ruined by the war actions in Donbas, Filippo Grandi, the UN high commissioner for refugees has said.

“I visited Luhansk, Donetsk and several villages destroyed during the conflict. In some of them, the situation is awful notwithstanding that we jointly with other organizations started programs to help to renovate houses. Our office has helped to restore houses for 1,200 families. We plan to help with house repair to 2,000 more families next year,” he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“The needs are higher, particularly, in the areas of Donbas, uncontrolled by the Ukrainian government,” he said.

During his recent visit to Ukraine Grandi  has met Ukrainian leaders, visited Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk and Mayorsk in Donetsk Oblast. Commissar also visited the towns and villages of Donbas, occupied by the Russian-backed mercenaries.
