Some 48 percent of the polled in Ukraine support an early election to the Verkhovna Rada, the country’s parliament, while 35 percent are against this idea, according to results of a national public opinion poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center Sociology Service.

A free and fair election on May 25 is the first step toward stability. But the election itself will not solve Ukraineu2019s problems unless a new president can also address the deep corruption and cronyism that have been a hallmark of Ukrainian government since independence in 1991.
