The international expert on UN peacekeeping missions, General Jaakko Oksanen has said that UN peacekeepers should be unbiased in the performance of their duties.

“The key issue is that the peacekeepers are not representatives of the countries which they are from. They should be unbiased,” Oksanen said, speaking at the round table talk titled “UN Peacekeeping Mission – Opportunities and Risks for Safe World” in Kyiv on Feb.13.

The expert added that the peacekeepers, agreeing to participate in the mission, accept certain conditions, in particular, to be unbiased. In addition, according to Oksanen, peacekeepers should be able to quickly react and have access to any territory.
