U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has said public activists often face threats or legal harassment in their work in Ukraine.

Speaking at the “Freedom Practices” forum for civil society organization development in Kyiv on Nov. 16, the ambassador said that public activists continue to work notwithstanding verbal abuse, legal persecution and physical threats, because they realize that Ukraine will be successful if they are successful.

She said that NGOs are the engine of reforms in Ukraine.

The diplomat also stressed that public organizations also provide support to participants of the combat actions in Donbas and internally displaced persons.
