U.S. Department of Energy chief Rick Perry has postponed his planned August 29 visit to Ukraine because of damages done by hurricane Harvey in Texas, the U.S. embassy in Ukraine has told the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

“Yes, the minister has postponed his visit,” the embassy told Interfax-Ukraine on August 28.

American diplomats said Perry is presently located in his home state of Texas, which was devastated by the storm.

National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy meanwhile said it had decided to postpone its strategy presentation planned for August 31 to November.

“We think it’s important to engage key international partners of Ukraine in discussion. However, because of the storm in the U.S. Rick Perry and President and CEO of Overseas Private Investment Corporation Ray Washburne were forced to change their travel plans,” it said.

As earlier reported, some 6.8 million inhabitants of Texas, or about a quarter of the population of America’s largest state, have suffered from hurricane Harvey, which struck the U.S. coast on Saturday, according to BBC reports.
