The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has condemned Russia’s politically motivated and unjustified sentencing Crimean Tatars in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir” case.

“We condemn Russia’s politically motivated and unjustified sentencing of 7 Crimean Tatar journalists and civil society activists to prison. Russia must stop inflicting its unjust laws & corrupt trial processes on Ukrainians & end its illegal occupation of Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine,” the press service of the embassy said on its Facebook page.

As reported, Crimean Tatars, defendants in the so-called second Bakhchisarai group “Hizb ut-Tahrir,” on Sept. 16 received the maximum sentences in a strict regime colony: Marlen Asanov got 19 years, Mamet Belyalov got18 years, Server Mustavaeva got 14 years, Edem Smailov got 13 years, Sairan Saliev got 16 years, Timur Ibragimov got 17 years, Server Zekiryaev got 13 years.
