The U.S. applauds the professional and well-grounded reaction to the so-called investigation published by The New York Times about possible deliveries of rocket engines to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

“We welcome the Ukrainian government’s thorough, professional, and fact-based approach to its investigation,” the U.S Embassy in Kyiv said on its Twitter microblog.

As earlier reported, The New York Times on August 14 published an investigation, titled “North Korea’s Missile Success Is Linked to Ukrainian Plant, Investigators Say.”

Michael Elleman, a missile expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies was, quoted by authors of the article as saying that rocket engines used by the DPRK “came from Ukraine — probably illicitly.”

Ukrainian officials, including National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, rejected the claims, along with officials from the Dnipro-based state-owned Yushmash (Pivdenmash) enterprise.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko subsequently ordered state officials to investigate the veracity of information reported in the article and invited its authors to participate.
