On June 29, experts who are involved in the sanctions policy of the United States will come to Ukraine to consult with the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) regarding cooperation in the field of sanctions policy, NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said during a conversation with reporters on June 25.
“On June 29, specialists from the United States who are directly involved in the procedure [introduction] of U.S. sanctions are coming to Ukraine. They arrive here to hold consultations with us, to carry out certain processes with us, which we have already agreed on. We cooperated with them during [pandemics] of COVID-19, let’s just say, we had correspondence communication. On the 29th, we will have a group here which we will continue to cooperate with,” Danilov said, answering a question from journalists about the possible introduction of NSDC sanctions against Ukrainians who are under U.S. sanctions.
The NSDC Secretary said that at the moment 134 Ukrainian citizens are under U.S. sanctions, while 130 Ukrainians are under the sanctions of the U.S. Treasury, and four more are under the sanctions of the American State Department.
“Today, there are 134 Ukrainian citizens under U.S. sanctions,” Danilov said.
He also said that the U.S. introduced its sanctions against Ukrainians who were involved in the annexation of Crimea in 2014, cybercriminals, violators of the Magnitsky Act (American law providing for the introduction of personal sanctions against persons responsible for violating human rights and the rule of law in Russia), or Ukrainian citizens who took part in the interference in the U.S. elections.
“We received protocol instructions from the President of Ukraine to find out who of the citizens of Ukraine is currently under U.S. sanctions, what kind of citizens they are and on what basis they are on the list,” the NSDC Secretary said.
He said that the National Security and Defense Council, after the check, will make separate appropriate decisions for each Ukrainian.
“A separate decision will be made for each individual person, and, after a certain period of time, a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council will be held, and, if necessary, an appropriate decision of our Council will be made regarding the introduction of sanctions against these people by Ukraine,” Danilov said.
