Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov has said that the National Police will resolutely react to any attempts to undermine interethnic harmony and interfaith consensus in Ukraine, the Liaison Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has said.

“Preserving interfaith consensus and interethnic harmony in Ukrainian society remains a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Any manifestations of intolerance, racism, anti-Semitism, national and religious hatred in the current difficult time for Ukraine should be viewed as a conscious enemy provocation directed against civilized civil society, national consolidation and the unity of our state,” Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said during a meeting with Special Envoy of the U.S. Department of State on monitoring and combating anti-Semitism Elan Carr in Kyiv on May 7.

According to him, the National Police will decisively react to any attempts to undermine interethnic peace and public confidence, so that every citizen of Ukraine feels confident and protected.

“During the last year, not a single attack on the grounds of anti-Semitism happened in Ukraine,” the minister added.

In turn, Carr noted the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on the way to overcoming manifestations of anti-Semitism in Ukraine and assured of support from the U.S. State Department.

Ukraine is a friendly place for Jews. The fact that you do not have violence on the basis of anti-Semitism amazes me, the special envoy of the U.S. State Department added.
