Poland saw 15 acts of vandalism at “Ukrainian commemoration sites,” including graves, in 2014-2017, Volodymyr Viatrovych, the director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, wrote on Facebook.

“Their perpetrators were first unidentified vandals, and then a number of non-governmental associations claimed responsibility for part of this destruction. Despite this, Polish law enforcement agencies have failed to identify the culprits and have not restored the monuments, and the government has not condemned these acts of vandalism,” Viatrovych wrote.

In contrast, there were four instances of defilement of Polish monuments in Ukraine in 2017, Viatrovych said, and “all of them were condemned by both government officials and members of socio-political groups, including nationalist ones,” he wrote.

“Ultimately, all four sites (including the non-legalized ones) were restored by the Ukrainian side,” Viatrovych wrote.
