Since being accused of pressuring Ukraine to dig up dirt on Joe Biden as part of a quid pro quo deal for nearly $400 million in military aid and a White House visit, U.S President Donald Trump has responded to the charges in a variety of unhinged ways, none of which constitute actual legal defenses. He’s insisted that the whistle-blower is fake news because the person didn’t have firsthand knowledge of the call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, despite the fact that the phone call summary in the complaint closely mirrored the rough readout of the conversation released by the White House itself.
