Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova discussed with the ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union the implementation of the reform of the prosecutor’s office in Ukraine on Monday, July 6, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) said.

Thus, Venediktova told foreign partners about the progress of the reform of the prosecutor’s office, in particular about the certification of prosecutors and updating the personnel potential of the department.

“Now we are recruiting candidates outside the system to the PGO, who have decided to become prosecutors and have passed all stages of the selection, theoretical and practical training. We are continuing also to accept documents for the new selection. We are looking for law experts in our ranks, that is, new people that will give impetus to the development of our institution. In addition, we now have daily interviews with prosecutors of regional prosecutor’s offices. We continue to update and clean up so that the best of the best will be on the guard of the law,” Venediktova said.

In turn, diplomats welcomed the continuation of reforms and expressed their willingness to continue to support the Prosecutor General’s Office on course to transformation.

The ambassadors also asked how to hold a competition for the post of the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), whose mandate expires in 2020.

Venediktova said that the process of forming a contest commission for the selection of the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is ongoing.

“The council of prosecutors has already elected its four representatives. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on law enforcement selected the seven parliamentary representatives as well. Now, the MPs must approve this composition by voting,” the prosecutor’s office said in the statement.
