You're reading: Viatrovych: Russia not playing decisive role in escalation of Ukrainian-Polish relations

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Volodymyr Viatrovych believes that Russia does not play a decisive role in the escalation of relations between Ukraine and Poland, but only uses the situation.

“I am sure that Russia is using this. Russia is interfering with these discussions, but, unfortunately, this is not only a Russian provocation. Unfortunately, the aggravation of relations is the result of an internal political situation in Poland,” he said during the presentation of a report on the results of activity for 2017.

In particular, he noted that anti-Ukrainian sentiments were growing in Poland and a number of political forces were trying to take advantage of this.

“Russia does not play a decisive role in strengthening Polish-Ukrainian contradictions. It is taking advantage of this,” Viatrovych said.

When asked whether he will visit Poland, he said “yes,” but noted that due to the adoption of the law of the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland, it would now be difficult to hold a historical dialogue in Poland.
