You're reading: Video surveillance installed in cell of hunger striking political prisoner Balukh in Crimea

A video surveillance has been installed in the cell of the Simferopol detention facility, where the Ukrainian political prisoner Volodymyr Balukh is held, hunger striking since March, the Internet site Krym Realia (an internet resource of RFE/RL) has reported with reference to Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz.

“They have installed additional video surveillance in his cell, which is practiced on special occasions. His resonant case and his being public annoy the prison administration. Every day they come to him with checks. The situation is rather complicated, but he continues to hold hunger strike,” Chiygoz informed.
