Kyiv city mayor Vitali Klitschko met in London with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, thanked the United Kingdom for consistent support of Ukraine and for a principled stance on the issue of extending and tightening sanctions against Russia.

“This is indeed very important today, because tangible sanctions, their consequences can stop Russia in its aggression against Ukraine and from further escalation and aggravation of the situation. This is also important because if Russia does not receive a strong response from the civilized world, Russia’s ambitions won’t be limited in Ukraine only,” the mayor’s press service quoted Klitschko as saying on April 26 night.

The mayor of Kyiv said that Ukraine understands that it must make progress in the transformations and necessary reforms. And it should be done as soon as possible.

“Because this will also be the best answer to those who do not want independence and success of Ukraine,” he said.

Also during the meeting Klitschko and Johnson discussed the organization of the international song contest Eurovision-2017, which will be held in Kyiv in the first half of May.

“Johnson was interested in the ways Kyiv is preparing for the meeting of guests, said that he really liked the Ukrainian capital, which he visited two months ago. Answering Klitschko’s question what kind of music Johnson likes, the minister said that he likes the creativity of the Eurovision participant from the UK Lucy Jones, and he also sometimes listens to Hotel California by Eagles,” a message says.

The two also discussed the upcoming fight between Volodymyr Klitschko and British boxer Anthony Joshua, which will be held in London on April 29: “Johnson joked that regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s match, relations between Britain and Ukraine will not deteriorate.”

In London, Klitschko is scheduled to meet with representatives of political and business circles, as well as with the Ukrainian community of the city.
