Ukrainians voted overwhelmingly for the party of their former-comedian president in parliamentary elections on July 21, cementing the political newcomer’s power at a critical juncture for the country’s relations with Russia and the West.

Servant of the People, a newly formed party named after a TV show in which President Volodymyr Zelensky played the president, defeated established political forces to win 44 percent of the vote, just short of what the party needs to govern alone, according to a national exit poll by three pollsters.
